Owl party ideas and inspiration

I am trying to keep my head in the party scene, but these have been some of the most painful days of my life - my hip is so bad, walking, sitting or laying (so everything) causes me to cry out in pain. I am getting excited about the little guy's arrival, but 6 weeks feels like forever right now! Pray that my visit to the acupuncturist tomorrow brings some relief.

Meanwhile... I am getting excited about my baby shower (hosted by my stepmom - how nice!) coming next week! Word has it there will be lots of owls! (the nursery theme is modern woodland). So to focus on the positive, let's peep some inspiration for owls!

Fall finally came back to us here! WOOT! And I just got my gas bill for October - $45 bucks! That means plenty of extra dough for holiday party planning! - that's how you spend your extra money too right?! Have you started on your holiday planning yet?!

Wise Owl...

Yesterday I spent all day on a graduation cake and mini cupcakes for my cube-mate Diana - Congratulations on her graduation from her Master Program!

He's my first attempt at doing a sculpture cake and boy did it show! approx 7 hours from cake to fondant dying to cutting to assembly, ugh! But in the end, I think I did pretty well ;o)  Inspiration is from a cake book ironically called "50 Easy Party Cakes" by Debbie Brown.  SO WASN'T EASY!!! lol...  I tried to model pretty close to the picture in the book.  I did add "lines" on each of his feather petals (they made them plain in the book) to make it more like feathers.

I put him with a black wrapping paper covered cake board with two kinds of mini cupcakes - chocolate with buttercream icing and chocolate chips and the other chocolate with a peanut butter buttercream frosting with crushed peanuts on top.  Figured everyone could munch on those and not cut into the owl ;o)  Diana named him Charlie!

More Thanksgiving!

I am in hyper-planning mode for our special after Thanksgiving party.  We have everyone over the Saturday following Thanksgiving to have a night of fun gingerbread house building and stuffing our faces (again!).  Here are some more ideas I have collected.

Hello! you don't have to ask me twice to find a way to incorporate donuts into a party lol.  These are 2/3 of a donut hole, dipped in peanut butter, rolled in toffee bits with a piece of pretzel for the stem - how insanely cute are these!?!  They put them on leaves cut from fall colored napkins... me, I think I will cheat and cut out some leaves with my cricut ;o)  Source:  familyfun.go.com

Ok, if the ones above are too many steps, then ta-da! These should fit the bill... chocolate kisses with mini nilla wafers attached with frosting and a little dab on top for the stem.  Fantastically cute and super easy! (no excuses not to make these!!)  Source: littlenummies.net
